LUX the Band - Gravity (2022)

They describe their music as “velvet rock” (*), no doubt because of the voice of their American-born singer, Angela Randall, originally from New York. But turn up the colors, because the other musicians are French. We find in this formation with a luminous name: Sylvain Laforge (Rita Mitsouko, Catherine Ringer), guitar and vocals, Julien Boisseau (Jesus Volt, Kaz Hawkins), bass guitar, and Amaury Blanchard (Renaud, De Palmas), drums and percussion. In a perfectly complementary pair, it is the guitarist who composes the music and the singer who writes the lyrics. They had released a first EP in 2014 then a first album, Super 8, in October 2017, 5 years ago already… It is with the arrival of a new drummer that they released this new opus, Gravity. They write songs that are both timeless and current, the past can be the present, and the future as well. By entitling their album Gravity they play on the double meaning of the word: the gravity of our time and the force that binds us to the ground. With this new opus it is indeed the continuation of the journey filmed in super 8 which continues. An incendiary rock album in which folk atmospheres find a magnificent setting, an album whose freshness evokes a thousand and one things already heard but which we never tire of and which we rediscover with great pleasure! An album which was recorded, mixed and mastered at Studio Black Box under the aegis of Peter Deimel (Anna Calvi, The Kills, The Last Shadow Puppets…) and which reflects the band's love for analog sound. Brilliant!

(*) “Velvet Rock” came naturally to us because it brings together in two words the elements of rock, folk, and pop that are part of our songs. In "Velvet Rock" the "Velvet" winks at the same time in New York, my hometown, the lyrics in English, the velvet touch and the urban elegance of New York and Paris. And then there is the “Rock” which is resolutely guaranteed by the guitar playing. The resulting “Velvet Rock” describes our band’s style, look, and even organic sound.”
