Kokomo was a British band whose members were pillars of British soul in the 1970s. They released three albums, and the second "Rise & Shine" was described as "the best British funk album of the 1970s"
Kokomo was formed in May 1973 by Tony O'Malley and Terry Stannard, ex-members of P Arrival, and consisted of ten members. The band's first, eponymous 1975 album was hailed by the NME as the best debut by a British band in several years. Inspired by the strict, disciplined playing of Spenner and Hubbard, Kokomo was quite unusual among white soul bands in that the formation employed a total of four vocalists. in 1975, Bob Dylan recruited the band to help record his 'Desire' album. 'To Be Cool: The Rehearsal Sessions' documents this period between late 1973 and 1974, when the band regularly performed contemporary soul sets in London.
