“Pietro Pancella Collective” is a project led by the young bassist from Abruzzo Pietro Pancella designed to pay homage to his great musical influences, combining them with his own language and artistic research. This first debut volume is dedicated to three masters of jazz music: Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane. Each of the three authors has been entrusted with an arranger, so the musicians involved not only have a sidemen role, but actively participate in the arrangements. In this regard, two of the musicians with whom Pietro Pancella has shared stages and life experiences for years have been chosen, who are Giulio Gentile (piano) and Christian Mascetta (guitar), respectively arrangers of Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane. To add further value to the record there are also the saxophonist Manuel Caliumi and the drummer Michele Santoleri, with whom Pietro shares various projects playing together for over ten years. The sense of unity in music and in life, compact sound and collective research is what characterizes this project, which is why it is called Collective. “Vol. 1: Music of Henderson, Shorter & Coltrane” tells the story of five young musicians who seek the way to bring out their personality through the music of the authors who have most inspired them.
