Pietro Tonolo - Mirando (2009)

Pietro Tonolo is an absolutely reliable musician, an experienced saxophonist with many works of great depth in the past and a great desire to play again and well. Proof of this is yet another beautiful work for Egea, an elegant label which has also accustomed its users to sounds often free from the more rhythmic component of jazz and instead closer to the melody and calmness of the classical sounds of a certain Italian tradition. In the case of this Mirandoinstead, the choice of Tonolo (with Gil Goldstein on piano, Riccardo Dal Fra on bass and Francesco Sotgiu on drums) veers in some compositions towards greater dynamics, innate in the musicians and effective in giving the work an admirable variety. And a vivacity in the interplay and in the solos which gives each musician, especially the two soloists, space to express themselves in the best possible way.
