Young Jazz Rebels - Slave Riot (2010)

The trio of Young Jazz Rebels represents yet another jazz group spawned by Madlib’s former act, Yesterdays New Quintet. That “group” dropped its final record, Yesterdays Universe, featuring a series of other groups including Suntouch, the Jazzistics, and the Otis Jackson Jr. (Madlib’s real name) Trio. And he set out to create an album for every group from that final YNQ record. Enter Slave Riot by the Young Jazz Rebels. Like the others, this trio consists of Madlib, Karriem Riggins, who you might know from his J Dilla collaborations, and Ivan “Mamao” Conti, of Brazilian jazz group Azymuth.
