The alluring Meg Rayne invites an impressive cast to fill out her 12 tasty lounge tunes. Some of the outstanding guest appearances include Duke Levine (guitar), Billy Novick (woodwinds), Sandy Martin (pedal steel), Tom Eaton (accordion), Dennis Brennan (vocals), and Curtis Jerome Haynes (keys), who also flavorfully produced the disc. The music slithers and slides in a jazzy way around Meg’s passionate voice that sounds like a Joni Mitchell who chose to become a piano chanteuse. “Fearlessly Dreaming” employs a light touch of heavily reverbed backing vocals and has the dreamiest set of guitars; one floating, one sliding, one with vibrato, and another playing a nylon string solo. The album peaks on “Keep Me Keepin’ On” with its “Good good good good love” creamy harmony hook. “Forgive Me” is a beautiful heart-felt plea of forgiveness that ends with a low bowed cello and the weepy slide of a steel string. The CD leaves me feeling that behind Meg Rayne’s sultry pipes is an honest, loving woman. (T Max)
