For their thirty-second release on the Telarc label, Erich Kunzel and the Cincy Pops made a splendid recording of orchestral transcriptions from Puccini’s best-known and most-loved operas, following the example set by Andre Kostelanetz in his recordings from the early "50s. Included are all-instrumental versions of three arias and two duets from La Boheme; selections from Madama Butterfly; duets and arias from Tosca; the lyrical "O mio babbino caro," from Gianni Schicchi ; and "In quelle trine morbide," from Manon Lescaut.

The disc, released in 1991, hit the top on the Billboard Classical Crossover chart and stayed there for several weeks.
