María Dueñas presents her highly anticipated Deutsche Grammophon debut album; Beethoven and Beyond captures a towering performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto, recorded live at Vienna’s Musikverein and featuring the artist’s own cadenzas. The album also includes works by Kreisler, Saint-Saëns, Spohr, Wieniawski and Ysaÿe, with a companion disc of Beethoven cadenzas by the same composers.

I am Spanish, like María Dueñas, and all I can say is that her Beethoven is TERRIBLE. Horrible, veeeery ugly and extra long vibrato, hiper Romantic phrasing and articulation, Disney-like uninteresting violin sound... DG can be happy that most of their purchasers and followers have absolutely no idea about music performance, otherwise nobody would buy most of their catalogue.

In reply to Ockeghem2, the lyrical, romantic approach to Beethoven's violin concerto is not my preference but it is a legitimate way of approaching the work. Where I really take issue with María Dueñas is with her own cadenza's, which seem quite out of keeping with Beethoven's masterly composing. All of the other 1st movement cadenzas presented on this album are preferable, in my view.
