A truly "ultimate" Earth, Wind & Fire compilation would offer a larger assortment of highlights from the band's catalog, but this is a decent one-disc/19-track overview. Released in the U.K., Ultimate Collection draws from EW&F's classic Columbia era, with nothing from the early Warner Bros. albums or the later '80s releases. The inclusions, such as the number one R&B singles "Shining Star," "Sing a Song," "Getaway," "Serpentine Fire," "September," and "Let's Groove," are indisputable. (The lone number one R&B hit missing here is "System of Survival," from 1987.) This merely scratches the surface of the band's exceptional history.~Andy Kellman
