Berry Gordy's upstart Motown label began to catch fire in 1966 with the release of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" by the Supremes, one of 16 tracks on Motown Year by Year: The Sound of Young America, 1966. An ambitious series to say the least, MYBY offers a great cross section of failures, one-hit wonders, and legends, showing the diversity and tenacity of the label. Other standout cuts on this installment include "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" by a young Stevie Wonder, the Temptations' "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep," "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)" by Frank Wilson, and "Love Is Like an Itching in My Heart" from the Supremes.
