Check out the premiere of the new single from San Diego troubadour Nick Justice. ‘Stranger in My Town’ is a tuneful song, built around a great rhythm and the low, warm sounds of Mai Leisz’s bass (David Crosby Band). Justice possesses a great country vocal, used to great effect to tell his story and, indeed, he is a real storyteller. Justice says of the song: “This is a story about not fitting in in a place that is familiar to you. Sometimes you can’t go home. When I was a young man I wanted to be anywhere but where I was growing up and living on Long Island. I left shortly after my 18th birthday and made my way out in the world. About 10 years later I returned to my hometown yet nothing felt ‘home’ about it. I remember running into an someone I went to high school with on the street who didn’t even recognize me. That was profound to me. I became a stranger in my town.”

‘Stranger in My town’ is the title track from Justice’s forthcoming solo album, due for release on 30th July 2023. It will be his 6th solo record and he’s also released an album as one half of The Sidemen, alongside with Feter Martin Homer. This follows a long musical career, busking, touring, playing in bands and opening for various acts, such as INXS and the Del Fuegos. He’s certainly come a long way since making the move from New York to California back in the 1980s, chasing the Californian sound of the likes of the Eagles and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The new record benefits from some talented collaborators, including Richard Stekol on guitar and backing vocals, Greg Leisz on pedal steel and Dobro, and Leisz on bass. It’s all held together by San Diego folk artist Joel Rafael, who engineered, produced and mixed the record.
