For Cherilyn MacNeil, better known as Dear Reader, the last few months after the release of her new album RIVONIA (2013) have been very exciting. Touring around like crazy, she did not only inspire her concert audiences, but also the jury of the German film award, who awarded her for her music score for the german tragicomedy in black-and-white OH BOY. Cherilyn now is very content that her hard work has yielded fruits: RIVONIA is very personal and deals with her home country South Africa. The album is a mix based on folk, pop, musical, shapenote-chorals, afrobeats, woodwinds, vocals and chants ... and even more vocals and chants. Singing followed back to its roots, to its essence and growing in every possible direction, always different yet always connected. Still, apart from this exciting vocals, each song is incredibly close to her, incredibly intimate. Cherilyn MacNeil created a very unique and personal musical language.
