Charley and I have been playing fiddle tunes together for 20 years, but the last time we made an album was in 2007. This new album, Broke the Floor (Meg Wobus & Charley Beller) has already been an opportunity to write new fiddle tunes and pair them with awesome traditional tunes I've collected through my podcast Fiddle Studio.

We are working out arrangements in the contradance style with splashes of Irish and Old-Time- I've been a dance fiddler since I was 12 years old. Expect rhythmic, danceable fiddle with Charley's guitar, sharpened from years of playing at jams and sessions. Our producer is dancer and dance musician Talya Raitzyk.

I name my fiddle tunes in a straightforward way: Plaid Waltz was written on a tattered plaid chair in a cabin off the Tuscarora Trail. Dark in Here and Bear Spring were composed in a particularly dark off-grid cabin called Bear Spring. Waiting for Marc was written while I waited for Marc. These tunes were a hit on the dance floor in Baltimore and Washington DC, we are excited to share them with a wider audience!

The funds we raise through this Kickstarter will pay for studio time at Wilburland Studios in Ithaca, already booked for August of 2023, plus the cost of mixing and mastering. We'll pay our fabulous producer, and get professional design for the CD jacket. We'll produce a run of physical CDs and make the digital album available through Bandcamp and all streaming platforms. We'll be in touch to get you other rewards: Tshirts, books, lessons, and even an original tune are available.

Meg Wobus Beller and Charley Beller have been playing music together since they met on the dance floor in Rochester, NY in 2002. Between jobs and three kids, they have played for dances and played on the porch ever since. Charley spends a lot of time on music and jiu jitsu. Meg is the founder of Fiddle Studio and writes children's books under the pen name Willow Night.
