Alex’s passion for blues music began as a teenager when he came across Joe Bonamassa’s album ‘Don’t Talk’ and was immediately hooked and inspired by the virtuosity and complexities of Joe’s playing. So began his love and exploration of a huge range of blues music whilst Joe has continued to be both an influence for Alex’s development as a musician and an inspiration to become the best player he possibly can be.
Since the return to live gigs in 2021, both the Alex Voysey Blues Band and Alex Voysey Trio have been making waves on the UK blues scene, and their touring theatre shows are also in great demand UK wide:
‘Old Dogs, New Tricks’, a blues experience show bringing a virtuosic twist to both traditional and modern blues.
‘Faux Bonamassa’ pays tribute to Joe.
Alex is also a passionate advocate for the benefits of music-making on young people and was recently appointed as a Youth Ambassador for the UK Blues Federation.
Alex’s debut original blues album, ‘Head In A Blur’ was released in early 2020 and a new trio album is due out in 2023.
Since graduating from Leeds College of Music in 2017, Alex also frequently works as a session guitarist with many of the country’s leading symphony orchestras, including the Hallé, CBSO and Manchester Camerata across a variety of styles including West End / Abba / Nashville / 80’s / Bond themed shows and he was thrilled to perform the iconic Bond theme in recent film with live orchestra screenings of both ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Skyfall’ in Manchester and Harrogate.
He has also collaborated with artists such as the MD of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club James Pearson, vocalists Mick Wilson (10cc), Lance Ellington (Strictly Come Dancing band) and Matt Ford (John Wilson Orchestra), sax legend Snake Davis and Grammy-nominated composer and arranger Robin A. Smith with whom he frequently takes jazz/blues shows out to smaller community venues.
Alex currently owns several guitars but is especially fond of the blue Les Paul which he and his dad built together. It took him all the way through music college and is still used on nearly every gig!
