Prolific guitarist and composer Jack DeSalvo presents his formidable new quartet of Unseen Rain virtuosi performing his lyrical yet adventurous music. Here DeSalvo plays exclusively fingerstyle on nylon string guitar with all the dexterousness of the fastest plectrist, weaving serpentine lines and sculpted harmonies along with long time cohort and drumming adept Tom Cabrera, visionary pianist Chris Forbes, a musician of unique gifts and the prodigious double-bassist Dmitry Ishenko. All the tracks contained here are undoubtedly marked with DeSalvo's signature, despite the wide range of musical territory covered. From the harmolodic adventure of Louisville Stomp to the Jarrett-ish Americana of Call and Answer, there is much to savor here. The track for which the album is named is inspired by Robert Bly's poem One Morning, for which it is the last line... We both heard a sound; we didn’t know what it was. It was all around us. Then we understood it was the sea.
