Part of her ongoing research project at the Sibelius Academy, Uniarts Helsinki, this is Arja's sixth solo album. KANTERVO includes new music on the copies of some museum kanteles. The kantele player and researcher Arja Kastinen specializes in the 19th century Karelian kantele improvisation. By exploring the philosophy, instruments, tuning, and playing technique of the early music tradition, and bringing this knowledge into musical improvisations, she combines history and the modern times. She holds a doctorate in music from the Sibelius Academy in 2000.
