Taking a comprehensive look at Aleksander Tansman’s cello music, it can be said that instrumental virtuosity is subject to a work’s expressiveness and formal structure. As far as the form is concerned, it shares a common harmonic style, repetition of sound material of previous movements, refined rhythm with strong jazz influences, the air of poetry and lyricism and fresh melodic inventiveness, all so characteristic of Tansman. From the point of view of their aesthetic and artistic features, Tansman’s works are of great value as part of the heritage of the 20th Century.
