VA - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1990)

Largely forgotten album from the TMNT marketing blitz of the late 80's and early 90's. The TMNT were ascending to their globally generic status as the worlds fourth, or maybe fifth highest selling toy item, and this motion picture was designed to further imprint the accessible, memorable characters, albeit without a second act or particularly good acting to be found anywhere.

Partners in Kryme's hit single is excellent, as is John Du Prez's cavernous martial arts movie theme, other tracks deliver the swinging, punchy sound's of early nineties R&B and there's certainly enough hooks elsewhere to keep the soundtrack from descending into anonymous top 40 styled fluff. Belgian group Technotronik's house single Spin that Wheel featured fast cuts from the feature film in video and had a compelling, if repetitive hook to boot.~Lariste Kaplan
