The Gewandhaus String Quartet is the world's oldest string quartet, founded by August Matthai (1781-1835), concertmaster of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, in 1808, just two years after Beethoven composed the Razumovsky set. It's a group. Since then, the concert master of the Gewandhaus has taken over from generation to generation, and other players have been passed on by the members of the group, making it known as a rare group that continues to be active to this day. The Gewandhaus String Quartet has captured the hearts of Japanese enthusiasts since its first visit to Japan in 1964, and on its third visit to Japan in 1977, Victor recorded Beethoven's Razumovsky set. This year marks the 150th anniversary of Beethoven's death and the 100th anniversary of the invention of the phonograph. First violinist Gerhard Bosse turned 55 years old, and it was decided that from September of the same year he would hand over the leadership of the quartet to his student Karl Zuske, making this the last recording of the Bosse era.Title: Beethoven: String Quartet Op. 59, "Rasumovsky"
