Inti-illimani, pronounced Inte-E-gee-mani and translated roughly as the sun shining on a Bolivian Mountain (although the group is Chilean), are a multi-instrumental and vocal octet who have been entertaining around the globe for over 30 years with their synthesis of the roots music of Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Argentina. And not just in 'world music' circles; they have shared stages with a diverse array of stars including Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Wynton Marsalis and many others. The ensemble's music is essentially acoustic but played with nearly 40 instruments, both ethnic and more easily recognisable. Here they again display the rich textures of their musical heritage that has made the group so widely acknowledged, mixed with some influences from their numerous encounters with other cultures.
