Discover In New York, the new album from jazz drummer Alex Riel, in which he reinterprets great, unforgettable standards.
Alex Riel deserves the medal for best sideman in Europe. At 82 brushes (no pun intended), this drummer in charge of the legendary Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, hairdresser in a previous life, has accompanied almost the entire elite of the jazz planet, all genres combined, from Ben Webster to Archie Shepp, from Dexter Gordon to David Murray, including Stan Getz and Bill Evans (who wanted to take him to the United States).
These two New York recordings from 1997 and 1999, with Michael Brecker, Jerry Bergonzi, Mike Stern and Eddie Gomez, give a small idea of the incredible ease of this remarkably “all-terrain” musician due to his long experience, excellent solo as well as in original compositions by his accomplices or covers by Webster, Parker and Coltrane.
