Second-division Chicago '60s soul from the genre's pre-eminent label, OKeh. No big hits on this 24-track mix of mid-level names (Larry Williams, Johnny Watson, Major Lance, Walter Jackson, Billy Butler, a 1967 single by Little Richard) and unknowns (Tan Geers, Cookie Jackson, Joyce Davis, and several others). Like most compilations of this nature, it's not recommended unless you're deeply into the genre at hand. If you like the Smokey Robinson-meets-Curtis Mayfield nature of much Chicago soul, and want an intelligently annotated collection of some of the style's harder-to-find sides, this disc does a fine job.~OKeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 2 Review by Richie Unterberger
