This suite of songs was written to take the listener through a relationship from beginning to end, but it isn't a song cycle. The tracks were ordered to make a seamless aural listening experience. So, the last song, "Falling," is about the very beginning of the relationship; and the first song, "Big Girl Now" is somewhere in the middle. Some of the songs are written from the point of view of one of the principals of the relationship, and others are from, well, the other one. I hope that by the end of the album, the listener will feel that he or she will have recognized some of the universal truths about relationships - that they may begin with a lot of hope, possibly end with heartbreak, but that the memories are usually good ones, tempered by time and distance.

These songs range in style from rocking to introspective, but they all fit into the general Pop/Rock category, making Mystery Train an album that goes down easy and leaves you with a sense of joy not unlike trying a new flavor of ice cream for the first time. It's simultaneously ear candy with a streak of thoughts and emotions shot through it, and a serious look at the lives people really live.
