Dominik Raab Quartet: Relaxed swing and good groove
“What has always fascinated me about jazz is that it is intense on the one hand and relaxed and cool on the other. At least that's how I feel when I play jazz..." says Cologne drummer Dominik Raab. Consequently, he called his first album as bandleader “Choose Loose”. During the recording he had a true dream trio at his side. Tony Lakatos on sax, Doug Weiss on double bass and Billy Test on piano.
At just 34 years old, Dominik Raab is already an integral part of the European jazz scene. The fact that he was able to win over three such top-class musicians for his debut album is still extraordinary - and speaks for his skills as a soloist and bandleader. “Dominik impressed me from the start with his time feeling. He also has an excellent ear for his teammates. And he's able to brake gracefully when the horses run away with you musically — which happens occasionally,” as saxophone legend Lakatos puts it.
