Texas Fruit Shack features more of the Cornell Hurd Band's tight, rousing Western swing and wry sense of humor ("It Wouldn't Be Hell Without You" being a prime example of the latter). The opener, "Set 'Em Up (I'm Afraid to Go Home)," is the kind of swinging number that has become the band's trademark, while the title track is rollicking old-time rock & roll. Beyond all the wicked humor lies the indisputable fact that there are very few outfits making this kind of large-ensemble-driven, highly proficient Western swing and honky tonk. And the Cornell Hurd Band proves it once again on this album.
