Accompanied only by the preceeding album's producer engineer and drum programmer Lyle Puente, Patti Rothberg brings us another melodic, lyrical listen exploring vintage sounds such as a nod to indie band "Ratcat" on the song "Brainwash", the stripped down Harlemonica which is a tribute to her life's path, and she plays every instrument with no nonsense know how including a full drum kit, whatever it called for..from color to full beats. While Black Widow was moody and melodic as she was relearning to play piano, Ulterior Motives shows off a songwriting sensation and a honed craft from the very raw to the epic Hollywood Ending. It's a ride, and Rothberg is a bad ass bumper car to be watched out for!
