Variously described as ‘acoustic chamber–folk’, ‘Robert Wyatt crossed with Mary Poppins' and ‘like someone walking around a haunted house’, Mary and the Pigeons were recently hatched by songwriter/cellist Mary Barnecutt, whose background in classical music and creative writing provides her with a unique take on contemporary song.
Driven by free-spirited lyrics and sophisticated instrumental arrangements, Into Air encompasses 9 unique soundworlds from the lush string arrangements of 'Elephant' and 'Stranger Than', to the sparse, Brahms Guitar accompaniment of the haunting vocal in 'Guest'.
This debut album features playing from some of Ireland's top musicians including Redmond O'Toole, Adrian Crowley and Shelly Buckspan.
