As a solo artist, Katy has been a BBC Young Folk Award Finalist and has performed across the UK supporting acts including Willy Mason, Karine Polwart and The Staves. She was a founding member and songwriter of the Birmingham all-female, world-folk group, Little Sister. Katy has recently finished her fourth solo album (Songs of the River Rea) recorded with her brother Joe Bennett (of Dreaming Spires, Goldrush and Co-Pilgrim). This new album is a collection of songs which tell stories of life in the UK’s second city – songs on the themes of connection, love, loss, memory, and family. The style moves from the acoustic folk of songs like Cold November Day, through the samba-infused pop of One Day, from the old-time country feel of Driving Home to the slow-burning, Americana sound of Jack and Ivy and the gospel-inspired My Friend. Alongside Katy and Joe, the album features a fine band of players including Phill Ward, Hannah Rhodes, Mike Monaghan, C. j. Hillman and Robin Bennett. It is due for release in April 2016 and will be accompanied by a short tour across the UK taking in intimate acoustic venues and festivals in Spring and Summer 2016. As well as writing, recording and performing, Katy works as a music therapist and runs community choirs in Birmingham.
