The Weather is an album that captures the fruitful relationship that has spanned three decades between Joe Smith, Bill McHenry and Masa Kamaguchi since meeting on the vibrant New York Jazz scene of the 90s. The melodies are the main focus of Joe Smith's compositions, what inspire his music, that bring out the three distinct and very personal voices of the trio. Each musician, improvising and interpreting in the moment, paint their own distinct story using their own personal and precisely painted brushstrokes. The edition of The Weather is the culmination of a creative process of an album that captures the spirit of the concert that took place in May 2023 at the Jazz Cava in Vic, where this trio performed a compilation of originals written by Smith, some expressly for that night, and others that were already part of his repertoire, but had never been recorded. The Weather was produced and recorded live within the framework of the 25th edition of the Vic Jazz Festival that was born from the union between the UnderPool label and the Vic Jazz Festival.
