Less than five months after winning Les Francouvertes, Chloé Lacasse delivers a debut LP which confirms all the promise she showed during the contest. Here’s a young woman with not only a powerful voice and deft skills on the keys, but also a real sense of melody, a talent for writing compelling lyrics and a willingness to explore various musical atmospheres, from the irresistible upbeat pop of Tout va bien to the atmospheric rock of Ailleurs and the immediate emotional impact of a ballad like Je voudrais l’être. Sometimes reminding us of Feist, Marie-Pierre Arthur or Ariane Moffatt, Lacasse nevertheless asserts herself as a distinctive singer-songwriter. As produced by Antoine Gratton, who also did the string arrangements, her first album ranks as one of the best franco releases of the year.
