A committed and militant bassist, he began his career at a very young age, frequenting the Milanese pop music scene and then dedicating himself to jazz. In 1971, after meeting Guido Mazzon, he joined his Gruppo Contemporaneo, a group that contributed to spreading free jazz in Italy and which, among others, included Gaetano Liguori on piano and Filippo Monico on drums. Later, with them, he experienced the Trio Idea from which the long partnership with Liguori was born, alongside him in numerous projects and actively participating in the scene of that "political jazz" that musically characterized the decade.

His figure has also been present and active in the world of improvisation, through interdisciplinary and avant-garde projects, being part of experimental combos tending towards the performing arts such as Francesco Donnini and Edoardo Ricci's Neem (he is also present in their How We Were Brutti Da Piccini published by Materiali Sonori in 1980) and with Musimprop together with the brothers Massimo and Paolo Falascone and Filippo Monico. His collaborations are countless and intricate, just think that for a short period he replaced Patrick Djivas in Area.

With his Greetings from Home - I gave my blood to music, Roberto, who has always been inadequate in following the rules and with the intention of publishing two more volumes, tries to untangle the tangled mess of his long career and of his incalculable collaborations, thus recovering live, studio and makeshift recordings; and although the quality is not always up to the level of the best hi-fi system, it has an indisputable artistic and human value, where songs are proposed that see the presence of friends and musicians ranging from Gaetano Liguori to Massimo Falascone (here also in the unreleased role of audio restorer); from Tiziana Ghiglioni to Mario Arcari; from the photographer Roberto Masotti to the cat Albertina and his partner Laura Coci.
