Abdul & The Gang in front of a wall of amps lifting off the ground under the force of its own funk. A coppery funk of traffickers of which only they knew the precise dosages. The quantities of Oriental spices to inject, the measure of gnawa rhythms, the content of percussion, the balance between pure hedonism and the message that passes while the public dances. And deep in the groove, like a trance that slowly releases its power, a heritage from the desert. How could this respectable musical tradition end up fooling around on stage with these thugs in leather jackets?

The story goes that, packed together in their Chevrolet Camaro, Abdul & The Gang had one day stormed off to Errachidia to seize the honorable beldi rhythms. A motor-orchestrated musical blitzkrieg howling in a cloud of dust, traces of which were still to be found in the pockets of their straight-cut satin tracksuits.

Brought back to their Kasbatek, the beldi had become one of the gears of this Gnawa Funk which made the lighting of the place fail. Plugged into the mains, the synthesizers unleashed their hypnotic electronic melodies, playing their quarter tones like a formidable weapon taken out by surprise from behind the belt when everyone was holding their hands in the air.

Outside, the streetlights were also experiencing dips in disturbing electric crackles. A sign that inside, Abdul & The Gang were playing at their best and that the Kasbatek was entering the red red zone. The one that threatens to bury everything under a funky implosion.
