The choir of Wells Cathedral and conductor Matthew Owens were joined by violist Philip Dukes and mezzo-soprano Rachel Lloyd to present us choral works by American composer Gary Davison.
All the works on this recording were written for the Wells Choir and presented to them as part of an ongoing and fruitful collaboration with the composer.
This new album, consisting entirely of premiere recordings, contains Davison's largest work to date – "Missa pro defunctis", a powerful and touching Requiem composition – along with "Most High, Glorious God", the beautiful simple "Magnificat" and "Nunc. dimittis" of the Wessex Service and the inspiring hymn "Awake, my soul."
