“Peer Out” is the third album by the Paolo Profeti European Collective, following “Waiting for Bucharest” (2015) and “Glide” (2019). Having moved to Bucharest 11 years ago, Profeti has formed a crossover group in an attempt to build an imaginary bridge between musicians from various European countries, hence the name European Collective. The music is original, written and arranged by the author himself, featuring contemporary sounds, interplay, and spontaneity in the musical gesture, with a thoroughly tested electric rhythm section of three of the most sensitive musicians from the new generation of Italian Jazz, giving the group a truly unique sound.
The lineup includes Profeti on alto sax and flute, Siegmar Brecher on bass clarinet, Michele Bonifati on guitar, Giacomo Papetti on bass, and Alessandro Rossi on drums. Four guests complete the scene: international actress Ana Ularu features in a powerful spoken word piece, Marina Arsene on vocals, Sebastian Burneci on trumpet, and Sorin Romanescu on Moog guitar.
The album stems from the author’s reflection on contemporary society, a synesthetic and experiential search. Starting with the title, it attempts to focus on a reality that is increasingly elusive, whose outlines become more faded and opaque, losing shape and content. “Silent Shouting” reflects on the hidden powers that weave plots in darkness. “Destroying The Wall” hopes for a world without barriers. It’s an endeavor to still dream and hope for change. “(R)Evolution”, a play on words between Revolution and Evolution, as well as “Hopefulness”, a song of liberation and hope, and “Healing Dance“, a kind of salvific ritual dance. Music not only to be listened to but also designed to raise awareness.
