Petter Bergander Trio - Kierkegaard's Waltz (2019) [Hi-Res]

Petter Bergander Trio is back with new energetic, melodious jazz and the album Kierkegaard’s Waltz following up their praised 2015 debut The Grand Dance. They were called “innovative” and “raw fun” and the album “a brilliant debut”. The group has since played both in Sweden and international stages and festivals. The constellation is partly new with Eva Kruse on double bass. For the new record, composer and band leader Petter Bergander has written music with the explicit aim to make space for the “playing, the sound and playfulness of the trio” and the ambition to reach out to listeners of a variety of different music genres. The result is modern jazz music with melodies that speak straight to the heart. The title and title track, Kierkegaard’s Waltz, are a nod to the Danish 19th-century philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, a source of inspiration for the material on the new record. “He has lingered with me since I read a new book about him, a reinterpretation of his work. Living earnestly and being true and brave in my choices in life and music has become much more important,” says Petter Bergander.

The album also contains political elements such as the track The Return of the Afghan Boy, asking questions about humanity from the perspective of a young refugee in Europe. “What will happen to my own human value, and that of my loved ones, if [I] don’t react and act when it is devalued and taken from other people around me?” Petter Bergander says.
