The Kill Devil Hills - In On Under Near Water (2016)

After a few dubious years of collective amnesia, self-induced whiplash, attempted veganism, failed stock-market ventures and cheap off-shore neurosurgery, the Kill Devil Hills return to present their long-brewed fourth studio album, IN ON UNDER NEAR WATER. A couple of years in the making, it was produced in an old studio in the band’s hometown of Perth, recording as a 6-piece onto tape, its immediacy and visceral feel coming from being recorded more or less live in the studio.

The ten tracks summon the full range of the band’s musical range and stylings, and running to nearly an hour in length, it is an opus of the band’s work til now. From the epic weird-prog rock of KID, to the whispered balladry of YAKAMOZ, the songs tread both tenderly, and then with broken glass and shifting sands underfoot, across the sonic landscape that the KDH have carved out over the years as being very much their own unique geography.
