‘Howl’ is Cornish for ‘Sun’ and this Record is a collection of pieces that I recorded at Home in Cornwall and during my time living in Dorset created between the Winter Solstice of 2020 and Beltane 2023. These pieces of music are a homage to the Sun, the Stars and explorations of the cycles both within ourselves and throughout the turning wheel of the year.

Similarly to ‘Donsya a’n Loryow’ it’s just me playing on this record and you will hear a mix of Singing, Acoustic Guitar, 12 String, Double Bass, Drums, Percussion, Sitar, Cello, Bouzouki, Banjo, Accordion, Clarinet, Fiddle, and Synthesizer. I feel like sometimes recording an Album on your own can be both a blessing and a curse. I enjoy recording at Home alone as I really love the solitary space of creation one enters when experimenting within this process of making music. Though when recording without the presence and input of other musical souls the process can take so long and self doubt is a hurdle that one has to leap over many times. But I love playing different instruments so it’s also a lot of fun being in a realm of recording where these different parts of ones musical self can talk to each other and play. It feels like a very meditative space to be in and a powerful creative place for communicating with the divine.

This record is dedicated to my Grandmother Barbara J Rickman, whose spirit guided and stayed close with me during the creation of this music. Signpost to the stars was written for her and is for all those longing to be in the stars with loved ones who have passed.

I also designed the Album Artwork and the Oil Paintings featured in the Vinyl. The painting on the cover is a piece called ‘Benow Howl’ which in Cornish means ‘Feminine Sun’. The piece is from a series of paintings I made in 2021 during the same period a lot of these songs were written and is an ode to the work of one of my favourite painters Hilma af Klint.
