Hero-mode synth-pop propulsion riddled with ohrwurms by Montreal’s Annie-Claude Deschênes, co-produced by a particularly gassed IDIB capo Johnny Jewel

In classic Italians Do It Better style ‘Les Manières de Table’ sounds like an album looking for a film to accompany it. The sequencing, arrangement and overall thrust suggest the plot of a moist ‘80s horror from its tension raising intro ’Tasséomancie’ thru the ’80s NRG-disco power pops of ‘Culinary Security’, to a lash of The Cure-alike goth disco meat motor in ‘Ancients’. Oddity hunters will no doubt be attracted to the sultrier franco-disco of ‘Phones', dialling up digital interference as a smart ingredient in its lowkey hero swagger, accentuated by hoary syntar chops and punctuated by email dispatch idents, whilst those up for pure weekend frolics find it in something like Sabrina gone coldwave on ‘Menace Minimale’, the synth fanfare of ‘Y Aller’, and her hot-to-trot title tune.
