To keep the brilliance of the great Italian music of the past alive, dazzling and immortal - a need that comes naturally to Battista as an Italian. His new album aims to "explore some of the vast and wonderful Italian repertoire from the 'Dolce Vita' years and beyond and bring it to a global audience today," says Stefano Di Battista

Nino Rota's incredible composition - which gives the album its title and abruptly transports us into a boundless fantasy world - therefore stands alongside Paolo Conte's "Via con me" and Nicola Piovani's legendary "La vita è bella" (from the film of the same name "Life is beautiful"). There are pop songs such as the magnificent "Una lacrima sul viso" - written by Iller Pattacini with words by Mogol and made into a hit by Bobby Solo - and an operatic echo in Lucio Dallas' "Caruso", which has also long since become a classic.
