This comprehensive collection of the music of The Golliwogs, Fight Fire: The Complete Recordings 1964-1967, offers fans a unique opportunity to hear the artistic progression and apprenticeship of John and Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford in the three years leading up to the band's transformation into Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The San Francisco Bay Area band had formed in 1959 as an instrumental trio (John, Doug and Stu) called The Blue Velvets. A year later, John's older brother Tom joined, adding vocals to the mix and cementing the eventual CCR lineup. By the end of 1964, the band had signed with Fantasy Records, whose co-owner Max Weiss changed their name to The Golliwogs, without consulting them.

Nevertheless, the band resolutely worked clubs and ballrooms throughout central California and released a half-dozen garage rock flavored singles, several of which became regional hits in markets across the US. Amongst collectors and aficionados of '60s garage rock, The Golliwogs' records are today held in the highest regard. In late 1967, the quartet became Creedence Clearwater Revival, releasing their eponymous album a few months later. The rest is rock 'n' roll history.

This CD will be the only available collection of music by The Golliwogs on the market as a standalone product. It features all their singles sides, along with many tracks not released at the time. In his detailed liner notes, compilation producer Alec Palao states that 'the triumvirate of singles that are 'Brown-Eyed Girl,' 'Fight Fire' and 'Walking on the Water' would be jewels in the crown of any mid-1960s rock band, whether they were destined for fame or not.'
