The Glass Hearts (Tommy Cobley and Charlie Cole) release their debut six track EP ‘Coupe deVille’ this month.
Amongst the half dozen cuts `Brick Dust` is an enticing almost lethargic earworm of a number which kind of rolls along before picking up pace and hinted at the sort of not arrogance but maybe egotism that Kasabian alluded when they first broke. Title track ‘Coupe deVille’ cruises along as if you are riding in that classic Cadillac car that the track may refer to but could possibly be a metaphor as to life and the hiccups endured as we journey along. Nevertheless, it`s a real pop-tinged foot tapper of a number.
`Heaven Knows` is a much more thoughtful reflective spacious offering, while `Jeepers` returns to the former alluring indie sound of `Brick Dust` but with a driving bass line, partial guitar shredding, hand claps and backing “whoo whoos “.
`Mercy` is much more expansive and has an almost retro vibe with a sound that is almost orchestral at times and hints at heartbreak and forgiveness. There`s a similar sentiment to `I Want You Back` but musically its more mid paced while retaining that pensive almost agonising meditative ambience.
There was much to enjoy on TGH`s debut six tracker and you can understand why they have been chosen to support acts such as Miles Kane and Jamie Webster.
If you can spare around twenty minutes, I would suggest ‘Coupe deVille’ is a really satisfying way of filling that space.
