Formerly performing under Tica Douglas, TJ Douglas’ extensive catalog has garnered acclaim for their ability to distill compact narratives with an engrossing, gentle grace.

Dying is a prayer for those who don’t know who to pray to. It is a collection of songs to keep us company at our most solitary. It is an invitation to look more closely at what makes us human and what happens when those things are stripped away. Throughout the album-making process, Irish poet David Whyte proved to be a source of comfort for Douglas. In his poem “The Bell and the Blackbird,“ he writes, “...alone and accompanied in friendship by every corner of the world / crying / alleluia.” He speaks to the interconnectivity of those who grapple with life and sit with death - accept it, open the door to it. It’s in communion that Dying offers solace. Here’s an album that will stay with you as long as you need it to.
