In a world that always has one eye on fashions and trends, where some artists reinvent themselves and their music on an album-by-album basis, there's something admirable about a producer who finds their sound and sticks to it doggedly, regardless of what else is happening out there. To put it another way, there's not much going on here that we haven't heard before - and 10-15 years ago, when electroswing was ubiquitous, 'Tournedisc' may have elicited little more than a yawn. But electroswing as a genre is considerably thinner on the ground these days, and as a result this collection sounds remarkably fresh as of 2024, with just enough variety - a hint of Eastern flava here, some slightly gnarlier synths there - to keep you interested from start to finish. Sprightly, cheery and light on its feet, 'Tournedisc' deserves to be listened to without prejudice...
