Starting in 1996, Time-Life repackaged many of the Rhythm & Blues (Time Life Music) series releases for the Solid Gold Soul series. The Solid Gold Soul releases included updated artwork and packaging, but the used same track listings, masterings, and (usually) the same matrix number on the disc.

Time-Life released this disc as Various - Rhythm & Blues 1972 (RHD-20) in the Rhythm & Blues (Time Life Music) series and Various - Solid Gold Soul 1972 (R838-07) in the Solid Gold Soul series. The two CD releases are digitally identical.

The mastering engineer credit of Dennis Drake likely applies to any work done for the SGS release in 1996 (which probably isn't any, because the two CD releases are digitally identical), and the mastered at Hit And Run Studios credit (run by Steve Carr) likely applies to the original mastering done for the R&B release in 1992.
