The lyrics in this album are sacred poems from the Sikh tradition. These shabads, devotional song-prayers, were written by Sikh Gurus as well as sage-poets such as Kabir and Ravidas. They originated in the 15th to 18th centuries in South Asia. In the description of each track, you will find transliterated lyrics along with English translations by Valarie Kaur, Nirinjan Kaur Khalsa, Jasvir Kaur Rababan, and Dolly Kaur Brar. In track 11, Valarie Kaur reads an excerpt from the corresponding chapter in her book "Sage Warrior."
