Immediately after the war, big bands from the dying ghettos favoured the introduction of a new, hybrid genre that constituted a junk commercial category of some promise: Rhythm and Blues. It was as jubilant as you could wish for, this music for “dance-floor heavyweights”, and not only did it make you dizzy, it also acted as an anti-depressor.
