For a few years now I’ve ducked on IG and other platforms here and there to perform songs by other artists. A good way to stretch the muscles but it also seemed like a decent time for the community who would suggest songs etc. and more than occasionally ask, “does this mean we’re getting a covers album?”. On the heels of the news that I have to have another surgery Dave Palmer and I decided to make my 14th studio album just in case. It’s a personal journey through the American Songbook featuring reinterpretations of some of my favorite songs by Chappell Roan, Britney Spears, Randy Newman, Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, The Louvin Brothers, Miley Cyrus and more. And even though this time around I’m contending with material I didn’t write, it somehow feels just like me for better or worse. It’s also incredibly expensive to make so I’m humbly asking those of you who care about the work, and anyone who would plunk down a couple bucks to have seen me live in the past few years, to get involved with the campaign to get it mixed and pressed and to your doorstep. Not only can you snag the new record, but you can cop the book, the box set, bundles of catalog vinyl, all at a steep discount. And every bit of it is so appreciated as it allows us to bring a new bit of creative work into the world during a very difficult time to do so. We don’t have a streaming premiere date yet because, for now, we want to keep it a special thing for supporters. But you’ll have the digital copy as soon as I have a master and the vinyl plan is Nov 3 (my birthday! Ugh..). We thank you s much for being part of this 20 year art project. 14 studio albums in two decades. None of which could have been done without you. I really think you’re going to like this one.
