Jarry Singla’s music is an organic osmosis of Indian music and jazz. Since 2008 the German-Indian pianist has been working in his trio EASTERN FLOWERS with bassist Christian Ramond and percussionist Ramesh Shotham. This developed into a collaboration with sarod virtuoso Pratik Shrivastav, among others. On the album CONFLUENCE, Jarry Singla has now achieved a feat that is very rarely heard with such consistency. Despite all theoretical and conceptual underpinnings, he makes the listener completely forget what components the music actually consists of. It is simply there – as natural as breathing or sleeping. The sounds on the album are so transparent and yet so dense that you can let yourself be carried away completely, strip away everything familiar and just enjoy what the pieces themselves allow us to experience. Conscious of diverse traditions, the four musicians are paving the way to the future – for themselves, for us, for future listeners.
