The Low Sixes (Montreal) may be seasoned veterans with members from USA Out Of Vietnam, Doughboys, and Priors, but on their debut The Oshawa Tree, they unleash the energy of a pack of hungry young wolves. The title comes from a clever wordplay by the band’s Jonathan Cummins, conceived when he was stuck in Joshua Tree National Park, riffing on Oshawa, a “less-than-perfect” city in Ontario.

The band’s mission? To serve as an antidote to a DIY underground increasingly obsessed with experimentation and coolness. Cummins puts it plainly: “We believe everyone can appreciate a good pop song.” And that’s exactly what they deliver. The Oshawa Tree is packed with well-constructed indie rock, blending punk and power pop influences from the likes of Redd Kross, Big Star, Cheap Trick, Buzzcocks, and Guided By Voices.

Expect melodic, passionate, blue-collar anthems with gruff, sandpapered vocals, all wrapped in production that’s powerful enough to shake your speakers. Damn, this band is hard not to love!
