Nancy Wilson's move toward adult contemporary and away from jazz should have come as no surprise since she dealt in pop music almost from the beginning. Just for Now, which scraped the Top 40 in 1967, is pure adult pop, with songs like "Alfie," "Born Free," and "Winchester Cathedral." In a brief departure, Wilson turns Cannonball Adderley's "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" into something approaching soul music with her histrionic performance. Many of the songs on Just for Now were also recorded by Frank Sinatra, which is probably no coincidence since Sinatra's longtime collaborator Billy May arranged and conducted all but three of the tracks.
